Unaccounted wealth estimated to be more than Rs 30 lakh was unearthed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths from the house of an arrested additional treasury officer Sanjay Sevakram Meshram, who is a resident of the local Patipura area of the city.
Meshram was allegedly caught red handed on Monday by an ACB team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Deshmukh at the collector's office premises while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a complainant, and arrested.
According to DySP Deshmukh, Meshram is an additional treasury officer at the Yavatmal district treasury office and there were a number of complaints about his corrupt practices.
"On Monday, we laid a trap at the treasury office, where the complainant was sent with a bribe amount of Rs 2,000. Sanjay was caught red-handed while accepting the amount from the complainant whose bills for the purchase of a computer and a two-wheeler were pending before the accused for sometime," Deshmukh said.
"We have found unaccounted wealth over Rs 30 lakh so far. We are also investigating his other assets and benami transactions," Deshmukh said.
