Accident claims one life in Malda during Eid congregation

A ten-year-old boy died and six others injured when a septic tank on which they had gathered, collapsed during an Eid congregation in Malda district today.
A police officer said seven to eight boys, aged between 8-10 years, had taken position on the septic tank at Malatipur -Jhanjhaniya Eidgah in Alipur area under Baishnabnagar police station during Eid namaz.
The old structure collapsed under their weight and the boys fell into the tank. They were rescued but Abdul Sheikh died soon after he was fished out, the officer said.
The injured were rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where three of them were admitted and three others released after first aid, the hospital authorities said.

Meanwhile, a special namaz was held for women at Haidarpur area in the district.
The gathering organised by the Muslim Women Jan Kalyan Committee, was started in 2001 and this year it witnessed participation by 1000 Muslim women, the Committee said.
It said special namaz for women is gaining popularity in several areas of the district.
Over 1.20 lakh Muslims participated in the Eid prayers at the Sujapur Eidgah maidan here in what is termed as the second largest Eid congregation in the state. NH34, adjacent to the maidan, was closed to traffic for over three hours in the morning due to the namaz.
