Two men have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the trafficking of drugs with 8kg charas having been seized from their possession, police said today.
Abhishek (27) and Abhimanyu (24) were yesterday arrested by Crime Branch sleuths following a tip-off.
Along with the contraband, police also seized a car which was being used by the duo.
"We got a tip-off that a duo involved in the smuggling of psychotropic substances would come near Bhairon Mandir to deliver a consignment of charas to a contact.
"A trap was laid and, at about 7.30 P.M., two persons, who had come in a Hyundai i-10 car, were apprehended. A search yielded about 8kg charas," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav.
Police said that while Abhishek worked as an assistant manager of accounts in a construction company in Noida, Abhimanyu was an assistant team leader at a Meerut call centre.
"Unhappy with their earnings, both wanted to earn a quick buck and turned to crime. They got in touch with one Hazi Taslim of Meerut, a known drug supplier of western Uttar Pradesh, and joined his gang," Yadav added.
Further inquiries are on in the case, police said.
