The Brahmarakootlu toll booth was in controversy since its inception with various organizations staging protests to shift it from its present location. The toll gate issue turned violent on April 26 and the protesters vandalized the booth.
Police on getting information that Mohammed Shamir, one of the accused, was being treated in a private hospital in the city had posted their personnel to arrest him immediately on discharge. The accused, however, escaped, police sources said.
Cases had been filed against about 25 persons in connection with the vandalism, they said.
