Twenty-eight-year-old Vikas Nath Tiwari was arrested by police from Chelmsford Road near New Delhi Railway Station, while he was on his way to catch a train.
According to Delhi Police's Special Cell, Tiwari had on June 2 planned the killing of gangster Sushil Srivastava and one of his henchmen outside the Hazaribagh district court where they had been brought to attend court hearings.
Tiwari had killed them to avenge the murder of his gang's two leaders in 2010 and 2014, police said, adding that his two shooters had sprayed bullets at Srivastava and his aide using an AK-47, resulting in the death of another under-trial and injuries to a constable and a civilian.
After the daylight shooting, a case under various sections of IPC, including murder, and the Arms Act was registered at Sadar police station in Hazaribagh and a hunt was initiated for Tiwari, who went into hiding and availed services of various gang members located in Kolkata, Darjeeling, Dehradun etc. To avoid arrest, police claimed.
After his father's arrest in the case, Tiwari shifted his base to Delhi by end of July and "continued to make threat calls to various coal belt businessmen located in Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dumka etc. Who kept on shelling out money for protection of their lives as now, he was the undisputed don of the area", police said.
