The voter identity card used by a man to book a hotel room in central Kolkata, from where bodies of a woman and a girl were found, was of somebody else, the police said today.
The man, the accused in the double murder case, had registered himself as Shambunath Gupta of Nalanda in Bihar and the woman and the girl as his wife and daughter and produced the Voter ID card as proof of identity.
But after a Kolkata Police team visited the address given in the card in search of the accused, it was found that the owner of the card, the real Shambunath Gupta, had lost it, police said.
The accused and the person to whom the voter identity card belongs are separate persons. He had lost his voter card sometime back and had lodged a complaint with the local police, the police said.
The hotel on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road had no facility to record CCTV footage at its reception, police said.
Police interrogated the agent who had taken the the three persons to the hotel and were trying to find out the taxi which took the three persons to the hotel.
