Accused in Manipur drug seizure case remanded to pc

The seven, including former Defence PRO Ajay Choudhury, nabbed for allegedly ferrying illicit drugs with a street value of Rs 24 crore to Myanmar from Manipur were sent to police custody till March 12 by a court here after their re-arrest.
As soon as the seven were produced before a special Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances court here yesterday the judge sentenced them to judicial custody till March 22.
The public prosecutor and the investigating officer, however, sought police custody of the seven for further interrogation and investigation.
The judge then remanded them to police custody till March 12 when they would be produced again.
There was no counsel for the accused.
The seven were charged under sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Choudhury, his assistant R K Babalu and assistant manager of Indigo airlines Ngairangbam Brojendro, besides three others, Haopu Haokip, Minthang Bongel and Milan Haokip were arrested on February 24 at Pallel in Chandel district for allegedly ferrying party drugs including pseudoephedrine tablets Respifed, Omkop, Hilcold, Polyfed and Actidin for being smuggled out to Myanmar.
The seventh accused, Sheikholen Haokip, son of Congress MLA T N Haokip, was arrested on February 26 from his house near here following interrogation of the six men.
