Acid-attack victim appointed to school education department

The Jammu and Kashmir government today appointed the Hyderpora acid-attack victim to the state school education department, on compassionate grounds.
Local MLA and ruling National Conference provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani and Tanvir Sadiq, political secretary to the Chief Minister today visited the victim's house in Baghat Barzulla and handed over an appointment order for her engagement in the education department, official sources said adding that it was done on compassionate grounds in the school education department.
Both Wani and Sadiq assured her of all help in future, sources said.
The victim, 30-year-old Rukaya, was working as a private school teacher and was attacked with acid in the city's posh Parraypora locality of Hyderpora on Srinagar Airport Road here by a youth identified as Riyaz Ahmad, on January 2.
The woman suffered burn injuries on her face and arm and was admitted to a hospital here first and then flown to Delhi for specialised treatment, expenses of which were borne by the state government.
