Action taken on 190 complaints put forward by Justice Gill Commission

The Punjab government today said it has acted on 190 of the 337 complaints put forward by the Justice Mehtab Singh Gill Commission probing false cases registered under the previous SAD-BJP regime.

In its eighth interim report submitted to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here, the Commission dismissed 216 complaints and allowed nine, taking the total number of accepted complaints so far to 337.

The Commission has so far examined 1,299 complaints of which 962 were dismissed on various grounds.

Under strict instructions from the chief minister to expeditiously address every recommendation of the Commission, the Punjab police has so far filed cancellation reports of the FIRs in 126 cases.

In seven cases, action was taken against erring police officers, while compensation was processed in 17 cases, as per the feedback received by the Commission from the nodal officers.

Further, compliance of the orders was made in 21 cases and proceedings U/S 182 IPC was initiated in 19 cases.

The maximum FIR cancellations were initiated in Ludhiana (13), Tarn Taran (12), Ferozepur and Amritsar (11 each).

Amritsar also had six cases, the highest, in which action was taken under Section 182 IPC, while Ludhiana had six cases where compensation was processed, followed by Amritsar (5).

As far as compliance is concerned, Kapurthala led with eight cases and Ludhiana saw the maximum cases of action taken against erring police officers, spokesman said.

For grant of compensation to the aggrieved persons, reports were prepared and forwarded to the government for consideration of the quantum of compensation to be awarded, said Justice Gill.

On the remaining recommendations made by the Commission, the nodal officers were complying with the directions to implement them and were submitting the progress reports, he added.
