Noting that about three crore cases were pending in various courts across the country, social and civil rights activists today demanded judicial reforms for speedy justice.
The activists said it would take at least more than 100 years to dispose of pending three crore cases, two crore of them in the district courts, at the current rate, emphasising that "speedy justice is a core value of human rights..."
"..Speedy, transparent and effective judiciary is the need of the hour after all everybody is directly or indirectly affected in the slow process of our judiciary system,", the activists said.
Children's Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting President Kumar Jahgirdar, civil rights activist Meera Bhai Padke and National Litigant Bench President Manoj David told reporters that they have sent a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India, seeking judicial reforms.
Their 10 point demands include audiovideo recording of all court proceedings, time bound justice for sensitive matters, setting up of an independent National Judicial Commission to appoint judges and creation of Indian Judicial Services. This would ensure speedy, transparent and effective judiciary, they added.
