Powers died on April 6 in Providence, Rhode Island, his family announced, said The Hollywood Reporter.
He joined the cast of Good Times for its sixth and final season, playing Keith Anderson, a professional football player and Thelma's (Bern Nadette Stanis) husband.
"My condolences goes out to the family of Ben Powers, who past a few days ago. He was a great actor and great friend who is gone too soon. He will be missed by many. Until next lifetime, my friend," Stanis wrote on Facebook.
Powers attended the Rhode Island School of Design for painting and sketching before focusing on acting.

He performed stand-up comedy routines in Providence, incorporating impressions and songs into his act, where he was discovered by a Hollywood agent.
He also was on the detective drama show, Mickey Spillane's "Mike Hammer", from 1984-85, right up until the time that the star of the show, Stacy Keach, was arrested in London for cocaine smuggling, which ultimately caused the show to get cancelled, while Keach served time in England.
