Leh is facing acute shortage of essential commodities like vegetables and edible oil due to delay in opening of roads connecting it with rest of the country.
Both the Leh-Srinagar and Leh-Manali highways had been closed since December last year following heavy snowfall.
The Leh-Srinagar highway is usually open by first week of April, but this year due to snowing and inclement weather the highway is still not open causing hardships to common people in procuring essential commodities.
Apart from groceries, others items like baby milk and diapers are also scarce, say residents.
"We are forced to procure these daily use necessities by air route at a very high cost," they say.
Keeping in view the May seven Lok Sabha poll in Ladakh, the government is trying its best to open the Leh-Srinagar highway by first week of May.
