The Maroon 5 singer said his experiences taking magic mushrooms - a psychedelic, mind-altering drug - and smoking marijuana helped him to understand himself better, reported Contactmusic.
"I definitely, firmly believe that the experience I had on mushrooms made me understand certain things about myself that I probably wouldn't have otherwise. What I took away from that experience was valuable and beneficial to me. It really forced me to look at myself.
"It's so corny to say but it's true. It's hard for me, as someone who does speak publicly about things, I'm not saying, you should do drugs. I hope that's clear," he said.
Levine, 33, also said drugs helped his creative process and even aided him to write hit songs.
"I smoked a lot of pot when I was younger. There is a place in this world for a little weed every once in a while. I've written songs after smoking a joint and it was good. More often than not its absolute garbage," he added.
