"We hope that we will get a favourable reply," he said after a meeting with Adani Ports Chairman Gautam Adani, who is in the state capital ahead of the inking of an MoU for the Vizhinjam multipurpose deep sea port project here.
The Congress-led UDF government had in June last decided to award the contract for the project to Adani Group.
Chandy, however, said: "We can wait as a decision on the cabotage law is required only when the port is operational."
The government is ready to spend more money if needed to make the Vizhinjam port a reality, he said.

Gautam Adani also later met Leader of the Opposition in the assembly V S Achuthanandan of CPI-M at his official residence Cantonment House and held talks.
The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has decided to keep away from the function after levelling allegations of corruption in the deal.
Adani also met state BJP leaders.
The MoU will be signed between the state government and Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd, the Special Purpose Vehicle of the project, at a function at the Government Secretariate here at 5 pm this evening n the presence of chief minister Oommen chandy and Gautam Adani.
