The government purchased 26,235 million units (MU) of electricity, nearly half of the total produced by state-owned entities, from Adani Power in the last two years, the Gujarat Assembly was informed today.
This makes Adani Power the biggest private sector electricity supplier to the state government.
In a written reply to questions from Baldevji Thakor (Congress), Energy Minister Saurabh Patel provided details about electricity generated by state-run plants during 2013 and 2014 and amount of power bought from private players.
He said the government purchased electricity from seven major private sector entities, including Essar Power Ltd, Essar Power Gujarat Ltd, China Light and Power India Ltd, Adani Power, ACB India Ltd and Coastal Gujarat Power Company.

Out of them, Adani Power had sold 26,235 MU to the government in the last two years - 12,155 MU at the rate of Rs 2.88 per unit in 2014 and 14,080 MU at Rs 2.64 per unit, the Minister said.
Essar Power Gujarat comes third with 5,512 MU in 2013 at Rs 2.96 and 5,342 at Rs 3.04 per unit in 2014. They were followed by ACB India, China Light and Power and others, he said.
