Union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot today said the Centre has provided "adequate budget" to his Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment which will be used to make and provide modern assistance equipment to differently-abled persons.

He was joined by Kanpur MP Murli Manohar Joshi and Kanpur Dehat MP Devendra Singh Bhole.
Lauding the efforts of the officers and employees of ALMICO, Gehlot said the artificial limbs made in the city were both modern as well as cost-effective.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has special concern for the Union Justice and Empowerment ministry and keeps consulting and guiding his department that reflected in the Centre allocating sufficient budget to the ministry.
In the last 20 months 1,600 camps have been organised for the specially-abled people with the support of ALMICO, during which equipment worth crores of rupees have been distributed to them, he said.

"Our government not only wants the specially-abled people to be self-dependent but also to join the mainstream for their all-round development.
"Keeping this mind, bus stands, railway stations and airports across the country are being decked up with elevators to facilitate the movement of specially-abled persons," Gehlot said.
Gehlot said so far government documents do not use the term 'divyang' for handicapped people but talks are underway to include the use of word 'divyang' in all government documents.
"Also, the government is mulling to send a proposal to the United Nations to adopt the word 'divyang' for 'handicapped' persons," he said.
Responding to a query on the JNU row, the Union minister said the police action in the university was "correct".
690 differently-abled persons participated in the event today who were distributed 1.227 assisting equipment worth Rs 56 lakh.
