The president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury today met the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri district where seven workers of a closed tea garden died of malnutrition in the last seven days.
"The state government is failing to implement the Centre-sponsored schemes like Rastriya Srama Vikas Yojana, MGNREGS and Janani Suraksha Prakalpa in the tea gardens. The benefits of these projects are not reaching the workers of the closed tea gardens," he said after submitting a memorandum to the district magistrate Pritha Sarkar.
Criticising the state government, he said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been visiting the tourist spots in north Bengal occasionally.
"But she is not bothered about the plight of the workers of the closed tea gardens," he said.
Seven workers, including two children, died of malnutrition in closed Raipur tea garden in the past seven days.
