Union minister Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury today assured the family members of the college girl, who was gangraped and killed at a village here recently, that he would help them approach President Pranab Mukherjee to convey their grievances.
"I met the distressed family members of the girl today and they wanted me to arrange an audience with the President. I also assured them that I will definitely try," Chowdhury, a Congress leader and Minister of State for Railways told reporters.
Expressing shock over the gruesome incident at Kamduni village in North 24-Parganas district, he said, "It is a dark day for Bengal which was once the seat of Renaissance, and where women are now not at all safe. It is a matter of shame and serious concern too."
The Congress leader consoled the family and said, "....We are with you. You are not alone in your days of crisis.
