Construction of toilets in over 499 villages in the district is currently going on, while work in the remaining 62 will be completed within a fortnight, district development officer (DDO), Ranjit Sinha said.
He claimed that Narmada will become the first open defecation free tribal-dominated district in Gujarat and entire Western India.
"We have formed internal village vigilance teams, comprising men and women, to keep check on open defecation. The campaign is aiming at sensitising people about building toilets. Due to ODF, about 50 per cent children in India are not attaining proper growth," Sinha said.
