To check the alleged pilferage of kerosene oil meant for public distribution system, Jalore district administration has installed global positioning system (GPS) devises on the tankers distributing the oil.
"Amid growing complaints of pilferage of kerosene oil and its misuse, we have decided to install GPS system on these tankers. The GPS will help the kerosene oil distribution tankers to remain on the radar of PDS department," Jalore District Collector Jitendra Kumar Soni said today.
District Supply officer Govind Singh said that the move will ensure transparency in public distribution system (PDS) and stop diversion of either the vehicle or the kerosene oil.
"We will able to track the movement of these tankers," he said, adding that all three companies engaged in supply of kerosene oil in Jalore district have installed the GPS devise.
Before this, a GPS-based Mobile Monitoring System was being used by the administration for effective monitoring of various government schemes and developmental projects.
"The system has proven helpful in ensuring transparency to enable us to release the fund and timely completion of the projects or even in tracking the progress of the schemes," Soni said.
