Addressing his maiden press conference as Chief Minister here today, Das said it was really unfortunate that even after over six decades of Independence, the poor villagers were deprived of basic amenities including water, road, electricity etc.
There is no doctor, no teacher, villagers are deprived of basic amenities like road, electricity and water, he said, adding that these are the reasons for increase in naxal activities.
"I believe it is totally administrative failure that led to naxalism in the state," he said.
Holding the bureaucrats responsible for the menace, Das said the root cause of naxalism was unemployment and lack of basic amenities, which the government was committed to address on priority basis.

The Chief Minister assured that his government would be accountable and ensure rapid development by utilising the abundance of natural resources.
Within a month's time, he announced, the teachers' recruitment process will begin and 17,000 policemen will be appointed in a couple of months. The process has already begun in this regard, he said, adding that he has directed all the departments to provide details about the vacant posts as well as the existing infrastructure.
