While speaking at a press meet along with state Minister for Cinema Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan here on Tuesday, Adoor suggested that ability to read English sub-titles of films from different countries would help appreciation.
"The film festival is for those who are interested in seeing and appreciating films. Films from various countries are coming with English sub-titles..Reading the sub-titles would help", Adoor, chairman of the festival advisory committee, said.
The Minister, sensing controversy, hastened to add that no one would be denied entry to the festival.
Reacting to Adoor's comment, director B Unnikrishnan said this was a new theory which limits the cope to appreciate cinema.
"No doubt that Adoor is one of the greatest directors... But this is a theory that limits the scope of appreciation of cinema to the ability to read sub-titles", Unnikrishhnan, also general secretary of Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), said in a Facebook post.
