Gopalakrishnan would be the second recipient of the award, instituted by Assam's premier literary organisation Asam Sahitya Sabha (ASS) in 2013, after Bangladesh's eminent researcher-danseuse Lubna Marium.
Gopalakrishnan, also a Padma Vibhushan awardee, has been selected for the award by a committee of eminent personalities for his all-round contribution to the field of filmmaking, ASS Vice-President Parmananda Rajbongshi said here today.
The award, given every two years, comprises Rs five lakh in cash, a citation, 'Seleng Chador' (Assamese traditional silk shawl) and a collection of books.
The decision to award Gopalakrishnan was announced today on the occasion of Hazarika's third death anniversary and he would be presented with the award in the last week of March, 2015, at a function here.

The noted filmmaker has expressed his happiness on being honoured with the prestigious award, Rajbongshi added.
The eminent director's films like 'Swayamvaram', 'Kodiyettam', 'Elippathayam', 'Mukhamukham', 'Ananataram', 'Mathilukal', 'Vidheya' and 'Kathapurusham' have won national awards.
The award has been sponsored by public sector undertaking Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
