In her message on the eve of World Environment Day, Alva, said that government effort alone cannot ensure success in safeguarding the environment.
She also asked educational institutions and social organisations to focus on the issue, not only on Environment Day, but throughout the year.
"Environmental issues have taken centre stage all over the world with UN declaring June 5 as 'Environment Day'.
We in India are conscious of the need to conserve our natural resources, with a ministry at the centre and in the states charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws and regulations to protect the environment," she said.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also called upon people to plant saplings to increase green cover belt in the state.
