Adopt measures to reduce bird activities near airport: JK

The directive came during a high level meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asgar Hassan Samoon here yesterday, an official spokesman said today.

The meeting was convened to discuss safety of airlines, in view of apprehensions of bird-hit, due to enhanced bird activities in the vicinity of the air fields, he said.

Samoon also ordered for scientific disposal of garbage around airports, as well as taking standard precautionary measures in order to reduce the bird activities for the safety of the flights, the spokesman said.

The meeting was attended by Air Officer Commanding Srinagar, Air Commodore, D Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Shafat Noor Barlas, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, G N Qasba among other officers.

On June 29, passengers onboard a Srinagar-Mumbai Indigo flight had a narrow escape after the aircraft suffered a bird hit.

The aircraft had to return and made an emergency landing at Srinagar airport after the bird hit.
