Advance registration for 2.25 lakh pilgrims for Amarnath Yatra

Over 2.25 lakh pilgrims have secured advance registration for the annual 59-day Yatra to the 3,880 metre high holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, scheduled to commence on July 2.
A total of 2,04,508 pilgrims had secured advance registration and 22,104 had purchased helicopter tickets from Baltal and Pahalgam to Panjtarni - the two routes leading to the cave shrine housing the naturally formed ice-shivlingam, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) P K Tripathi said at a meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra here.
Vohra, who is also chairman of the SASB, has convened the meeting to review the status of the arrangements for the Yatra.
Taking stock of various arrangements for smooth conduct of the yatra, the Governor was informed that power and water have been supplied to all six Yatra Camps.
Further, rations and items of food supply are getting delivered to all Camps and Medical Camps have been established at five out of six Camps, while 8,800 ponies have been duly registered out of a total of 13,000 which are allowed to operate on both routes, an official spokesman said.
He said telephone connectivity is functional at all Camps, 2500 toilets and 245 baths have been installed out of a total of 2792, firewood supplies have reached five out of seven Camps, all 115 langars have reported at the camps and about 100 have already been installed.
It was also reported that sanitation arrangements and Joint Police Control Rooms are in place and the Fire Fighting units are reporting at the camps, the spokesman said.
