The apex court said the adverse remarks against Bidari were not not necessary.
With over a month left for his retirement, Bidari had to relinquish the post of DGP in April 2012 following the direction passed by the High Court on a petition questioning the role of Special Task Force (STF) headed by him in 1993-96 to nab forest brigand Veerappan.
The apex court on April 24 last had stayed the High Court order which had quashed the appointment of Bidari as DGP.
The apex court bench of Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana P Desai noted that Justice Sadashiva Commission and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had given a clean chit to Bidari in the case of alleged excesses and sexual abuse perpetrated by the Joint STF on tribal women.
Though Bidari had retired from service, he had continued with the matter to restore his honour and establish his innocence in his much-acclaimed operation to nab Veerappan.
Former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, who argued for Bidari said the High Court ought to have gone by the finding of the NHRC panel which exonerated him.
