The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has extended his tenure as Chairman, AERB, till January 4, 2019 or till he attains the age of 70, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.
Bharadwaj, an internationally-acclaimed expert on nuclear safety, had taken over the reins of the AERB on September 1, 2015.
He will continue to hold the post till the appointment of chairperson of the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Authority of India.
Established in 1983, the AERB acts as the national nuclear regulator empowered to enforce safety standards and regulate the functioning of the country's nuclear power plants.
