An Afghanistan national has been arrested by customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country saffron worth about Rs 36 lakh at Delhi airport, according to an official statement issued Monday.
The man, in his mid 30s, was intercepted by the officials after his arrival from Kabul on Saturday.
His baggage and personal search resulted in recovery of 40 packets of saffron, in total weighing 45.8 kg, the customs department said.
The total value of the saffron, which has been seized, is Rs 36.64 lakh, it said, adding the Afghan man has been arrested.
