Gen Abdul Habib Sayedkhili, the provincial police chief, says the strike yesterday afternoon in the Khas Kunar district targeted a group of militants that has been operating in the region for the past year.
He says the leader of the group and his son were among the dead. All seven had been traveling in a vehicle at the time of the strike.
Kunar is a particularly volatile region of Afghanistan, where militants many of them affiliated with the Taliban movement have a strong presence along the eastern provinces bordering Pakistan.
