Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today said that after promising "achhe din" (good times), he was now fobbing off the people with the assurance that "jaldi thik ho jayega" (things will be alright soon) along the border with Pakistan.
Addressing a campaign rally for Maharashtra assembly polls at Saswad in Pune district, Rahul said that during the Lok Sabha election campaign Modi used to say that he would scare off Pakistan and China. "Last few days have seen ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which had not happened in the last ten years. There are casualties but still Modi says 'jaldi thik ho jayega'," he said.
"Earlier achhe din (good times) were promised. Now people laugh at this slogan," he said.
The Prime Minister had said 'things will be alright soon' at a function recently when a reporter asked him about ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army.
When Modi was sitting on a swing-set with the Chinese President Xi Jingping in Ahmedabad, troops from that country entered the Indian territory, the Congress vice president added.
"But the Prime Minister discussed only investment with China and did not demand that incursions be stopped because what is important for him is his image," Rahul said.
Rubbishing 'the Gujarat model' of development, Rahul said Maharashtra was ahead in every sphere. "Yesterday I was in Haryana which is the leading state in terms of per capita income. Maharashtra is second," he said.
"Our political rivals say nothing has happened in the country in the last 60 years. They come to you in cars manufactured in Pune and speak to you on mobile phones, yet they say nothing has happened. The United States is in awe of our manufacturing and information technology sector and still someone says nothing has happened. Only he is going to fix it all," Rahul said.
