After taking efforts for a banner-free Puducherry in the wake of the death of a woman techie after a banner came crashing down in Chennai, Lieutenant Governor of the union territory Kiran Bedi on Thursday initiated steps to rid it of potholes with the help of the police.
In a whatsapp message, Bedi appealed to her 'dear police family' asking the police personnel to identify potholes and close them.
She urged them to have their own staff and fill the potholes, paint or whitewash areas so that people could see and appreciate the endeavour of the police.
Asking the police to also take pictures and share them with the departments concerned after filling the potholes, she said such work would save time spent on FIRs and investigations, medical reports and appearances in the courts in the line of duty.
"Police are in the best position to do this," she said.
While banners were being removed by joint initiatives of several agencies, she said, the police too can help the municipal staff in doing their work and also fill potholes in view of the rains.
