Briefing reporters after a cabinet meeting, she said the muezzins would be paid through the Wakf Board since they are very poor.
The Wakf Board would pay the honorariums from the funds received from the state government for socio-economic development of minorities. Her government had earlier announced a monthly honorarium of Rs 2500 for imams.
The cabinet also ratified a proposal to provide reservation in jobs for Muslims under the Other Backward Classes category.
Banerjee said a bill would be brought in the next session of the state assembly to provide reservation to Muslims under the 17 per cent quota for OBCs in the community.
She had earlier asked Minister for Backward Classes Upen Biswas to prepare the bill to provide reservation for Muslims under the 17-per-cent quota.
Criticising the earlier Left Front government, she said "the previous government passed a bill on it in the assembly, but it failed to receive the Governor's assent. It was also challenged in the high court.

"We have done everything in a proper manner and conducted a sample survey before finalising the list of OBCs. The Supreme Court instructions and provision in the Constitution on the issue were also followed by us properly."
Noting that a list of 65 OBC minorities existed which were given approval, she said in addition another 33 categories were approved totalling 98 categories.
Out of 143 categories of OBC minorities in the state, 98 had now received cabinet approval, while 7 to 8 more likely to get approval soon, Banerjee said.
The reservation, she said, was essential since Muslims constituted 30 per cent of the total population in West Bengal, which was the highest among any state in the country.
The cabinet also declared appointment of 1,000 persons in the civil defence department, she said. PTI AKB PC ZMN
