After civil society groups expressed apprehensions about women being employed to serve food and drinks at a club run by a hotel here, Cyberabad police today asked the management not to employ women and also suggested a change in its name - 'Play Boy Club'.
Some women and student groups had held demonstrations on the club premises on Saturday last, on its opening day, expressing apprehensions that women may be roped in as waitresses, called as bunnys and teasers, to serve food and beverages, act as hostesses.
They also expressed fears that "any other possible depiction of women in an objectionable and indecent manner may set an unhealthy trend in the city.
"In light of the recent protests and apprehensions expressed by various groups of civil society, a fresh set of conditions was issued, wherein it is made very clear that no woman should be employed within the club as a bunny, teaser, hostess or in any other manner," Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said.
The senior police officer also suggested to the management to voluntarily make changes in the name of the club so that it would not give scope for any apprehension or objections from women and student groups, in particular, and civil society in general, which is being associated with the name 'Play Boy'.
"The police department only renewed the previous licence given to Novotel and HICC Pvt Ltd permitting to play music and operate a club in December 2012. Subsequently, the club underwent renovation and Novotel and HICC authorities contracted a different entity by name 'Play Boy Club' to run the pub," the Cyberabad Police chief said.
Novotel and Play Boy Club management have undertaken to comply with these conditions, he added.
"Any violation of these conditions among the 21 conditions will lead to suspension and cancellation of the police licence given to the club," C V Anand warned.
