As Bollywood stood by Salman Khan after his conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya and the star's friend Farah Khan Ali today courted a controversy over their "insensitive" comments against the homeless.
Abhijeet in a series of tweets said roads are meant for cars and dogs and not for people to sleep on.
Coming out in support of the superstar, Abhijeet and Farah, a jewellery designer, sought to blame the homeless for the star's plight in their tweets, were trolled on the social media with their comments being described as "insensitive".
"Come out fraternity, support @BeingSalmanKhan boldly not hypocriticly Roads footpath r not meant 4 sleeping, not driver's or alcohol's fault."
"Kutta rd pe soyega kutte ki maut marega, roads garib ke baap ki nahi hai (If a dog sleeps on the road, he'll die a dog's death. Roads are not the property of people). I ws homles an year nvr slept on rd (sic)," he tweeted.

Abhijeet sought to clarify the controversial comments in a night tweet, saying he meant to say, "A Human Dsnt deserve to die a Dog's Death". He rejected demands for withdrawing the tweets in which he makes a reference to dogs.
A Jaipur-based activist Suraj Soni, meanwhile, gave a written complaint to Jhotwara police station seeking an FIR against the singer for his comments.
"We have not registered any FIR so far and have kept the complaint for a probe," Shiv Kumar Bharadwaj, SHO Jhotwara police station told PTI.
The complainant said that the singer has hurt sentiments of the people with his comments and legal action against him was necessary.
Farah also took to twitter in targeting the government and the homeless and also drew analogies between people sleeping on the footpath and people crossing railway tracks.
"The govt should be responsible for housing ppl.If no 1 was sleeping on d road in any other country Salman wuld not have driven over anybody," she tweeted.
"It's like penalising a train driver because someone decided to cross the tracks and got killed in the bargain." she said, adding, "No one should be sleeping on the road or footpath. It is dangerous to do that just like it is dangerous to cross tracks.
Abhijeet and Farah were slammed on the social media with one tweet noting, "Yes roads r meant for driving and not pavements".
"Dumbo celebrities! They weren't sleeping on the road! The SUV crushed them while they were sleeping on the footpath!," said another.
The court, while convicting Khan upheld the prosecution's contention that he was at the wheel when his Toyota Land Cruiser ran over five people sleeping on the pavement outside American Express bakery on September 28, 2002 in suburban Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others. It also sentenced him to five years in person.
