After Tomar exit, Cong moves EC for postponing election
Press Trust of India Noida Left in the lurch after its Gautam Buddha Nagar nominee Ramesh Chand Tomar joined BJP just a week before Lok Sabha election, Congress has written to the Election Commission demanding that the nomination process in the seat be started afresh and polling be postponed to May 12.
"We have written to the Election Commission seeking postponement of polls. We may also file a PIL if needed to get a court order for the postponement," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) spokesperson Dhirendra Singh said here today.
Congress candidate from the Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha seat Tomar joined BJP yesterday during of a rally of Narendra Modi in Ghaziabad.
Tomar's last minute desertion has left the Congress in a tight spot as it cannot have its own candidate because the last date for filing nomination is over. Polling in the seat is scheduled for April 10.
