Agartala to be fully lit with LED lights by March

The city is likely to be fully lit with LED lights by the end of this year saving power consumption by 50 per cent, its Mayor Prafullajjit Sinha said today.
"The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to replace the sodium vapour and other lamps by LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights in the whole city. The work is likely to be completed by this financial year," he said.
Sinha said the first phase of the project covering about 20 km areas had already been completed by EESL, a PSU of the union power ministry, and the last two phases would be completed by March next.

The project cost stands at Rs 20 crore to light up 35,000 LED lights and the entire cost would be borne by EESL, the Mayor said adding the cost of the saved energy would be taken away by the PSU for the next seven years as project cost.
