"We can never treat bullets with bullets. Talks are the only way out. A solution will come only from talks," Agnivesh told Doordarshan on a day when the hostage crisis in Chattisgarh involving Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon entered the seventh day.

Agnivesh said the halt in the anti-Maoist offensive and operations by the Naxals could take effect from the middle of May.

"The government should say no (Operation) Green Hunt and simultaneously I will make Maoists say that no action from their side," he said.

Agnivesh said he will take the responsibility for Maoists to honour its commitment if a ceasefire is agreed by the two sides. PTI HKR GSN
