Opposition Asom Gana Parishad today called a 12-hour Assam bandh tomorrow in protest against police action which allegedly led to the killing of three people in Golaghat town along the border with Nagaland.
Addressing a press conference, AGP chief Atul Bora alleged that the state government had completely failed to give protection to its residents and instead used the police to kill Assamese people.
"Tarun Gogoi's government has become the most worthless and repeated instances of violence are happening across the state," he claimed.
Seeking immediate intervention, AGP today sent letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Bora said.
"Firing at innocent civilians yesterday and today actually shows the fascist character of Gogoi. It has been shown that he is politically inexperienced and does not love Assam," he said.
AGP also blamed the BJP-led central government for not acting tough.
Essential services have been exempted from the bandh's purview, Bora said.
