AGP opposes construction of big dams in NE

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a constituent of ruling BJP led coalition in Assam, today opposed construction of big dams in the north eastern region and granting of Indian citizenship to Bangladeshi Hindus.
AGP also demanded that two more ministers be inducted into the cabinet from the party.
"AGP is not against construction of small dams but the party will oppose any move to construct big dams in the region," AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said here.
Bora said that his party opposed the central government's move to grant citizenship to Bangladeshi Hindus as the foreigners' issue must be taken up on the basis of the Assam Accord, 1985 and

"AGP will not accept any digression from it," Bora told a press conference.
The AGP supremo also said that the party will seek two more ministries whenever Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would expand his nearly one-year-old cabinet.

Presently the party has two ministers in the cabinet.
Besides Bora, the other minister is Kesab Mahanta who holds the portfolios of Water Resources Department, Science and Technology, and Information Technology.
The party has 14 MLAs in the 126-member Assembly.
