Having fought off all odds to secure an MBBS seat under government quota, a 17-year old girl, daughter of agricultural labourer parents, is now at her wits end with her family not in a position to meet her educational expenses.
Deepa, who stood first in her school in the Plus Two board exam obtaining 1,153 marks, is seeking assistance from the government to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
Daughter of Subramani and Poonkodi of Krishnapuram village in Bhavani taluk, Deepa studied in the Government Higher Secondary School, Kavindapady.
Driven by her ambition to become a doctor, she somehow collected money from some persons and applied for medical course. She was selected in the counseling and was allotted a seat in the Tanjavur Medical College.
But her parents, who earn meagre money barely enough to meet their livelihood, are not in a position to meet her educational expenses.
Deepa today came to the Collectorate here and submitted a petition pleading for financial help for her studies by the government.
District Revenue Officer Sathsh heard her plea and assured that he would forward the petition to the government, officials said.
