Air India today extended its discounted domestic airfares offer for two more days to join the second round of fare war launched by other carriers.
Air India's 30 per cent discount on basic fares and fuel surcharge would be on offer till February six and valid for travel from March three, an airline spokesperson said.
SpiceJet, IndiGo and Jet Airways had re-launched their low-fare offers on a 30-day advance booking last week for travel in the lean months of March and April. The first time these airlines launched the low-fare schemes was in January.
The fare war came as the airlines expected a weak demand in the upcoming lean period and attempted to mop up funds for the March quarter, which is traditionally a weak period both from demand and revenue points of view.
Travel portals also reported an upswing in bookings within a short time of the announcements.
With most airlines in the bandwagon, travellers are finally getting some respite from high airfares and were taking advantage of these great prices to book their holidays in advance.
