A woman has moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction for registration of a case against senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai, MP, for allegedly denying access to her land located adjacent to an educational institution run by him in suburban Avadi.
When the petition by Uma Prasad came up for hearing before Justice K K Sasidharan, Thambidurai gave an undertaking that he would by August 12 produce a plan enabling access to the petitioner's land.
The petitioner, who is having a land adjacent to St Peter's Institute of Higher Education and Research at Avadi in neighbouring Thiruvallur District, alleged that with the use of muscle power, political clout and influence, a majority of the land owners in the area were forced to part with their lands to Thambiduari for a meagre price.
She also said a compound wall was built by the MP encircling her land, denying access to her land.
She claimed police officials, who inquired into her complaint about denial of access to her land, had threatened that the matter would be treated as closed and civil in nature if the matter was not settled amicably.
Uma Prasad sought a direction to the police to register a case against Thambidurai and his wife, running the college.
Senior counsel Vijay Narayan, who appeared for Thambidurai and his wife, gave an undertaking that documents will be executed giving access to the land of the petitioner on August 12.
Recording the undertaking, the judge posted the matter to August 12 for further orders.
