AIADMK stages walkout in Pondy assembly

All the five legislators belonging to the opposition AIADMK today staged a walkout in the Assembly.
Within minutes of commencement of the session for a resumed debate on motion of thanks to the Lt Governor for his address, AIADMK Legislature party leader P.Purushothaman staged the walkout.
Before walking out, he said that as many as 18,500 farmers attached to the cooperative sugar mill in neighbouring Lingareddipalayam were facing ordeals with the mill delaying payment for the sugarcane supplied during the previous crushing season.He also said inputs to raise the crop were not also available and agriculturists were hard-pressed for money to go ahead with the raising of the crop now.

He said Puducherry government should emulate the measures taken by the neighbouring Tamil Nadu government for welfare of the sugarcane farmers.Interest free loans and other facilities should be available so that farmers would be relieved of their sad predicament.
After criticising the government, the legislators staged a walkout and returned to the House after sometime to participate in the proceedings.
