AIADMK today urged the Centre to intervene and seek a detailed report from the Puducherry government on the alleged attack on a mosque near here.
"The Centre should seek a detailed reportfrom the Puducherry government, particularly, the breach of the ban on permission for meetings near places of worship," AIADMK legislature wing leader A Anbalagan told reporters here.
Stating that police should have denied permission to the Hindu Munnani to hold a meeting near the mosque, he said the government should conduct a probe as to how the standing order banningmeetings near places of worship was 'breached'.
Criticising Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, the AIADMK MLA said, instead of ordering a probe into the incidents, he had said Goondas Act would be invoked against those fanning communal clashes, which was not sufficient.
CPI (M) Puducherry unit Secretary R Rajangam criticised the 'failure of the police to prevent attack on mosque' here and sought a high-level probe into the incident.
The incident occurred on Sunday when a public meeting was organised by the Hindu Munnani near the mosque in Orleanpet.

Complaints and counter-complaints had been filed by the Munnani and the mosque authorities.
