Party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi also refused to make any adverse comment against the Opposition, which has indicated that it could go to the Supreme Court against Mukherjee's election.

"It is their concern who does what. On this occassion we want to proceed with a positive thinking. We also thank the Opposition that they opposed our candidate according to the democratic system," Dwivedi said.

Noting that Mukherjee's nomination was welcomed not only by the MPs and MLAs, who are voters in the electoral college for President's election but the entire country, Dwivedi said, "All sections of society hailed it. And this has a reason. Mukherjee has such a personality."

He said Mukherjee can talk on any issue, be it national and international politics or history, arts, phiosophy, society and culture. "We are happy that some one who has a complete personality is going to be the next President," Dwivedi said.

"We thank first our allies and express our gratitude to all other parties and individual voters, who supported our candidate.

"The post of Indian President is not an ordinary post. This is a tradition of dignity, which was begun by a freedom fighter like Rajendra Prasad and a scholar-philosopher like S Radhakrishnan. Pranab Mukherjee is going to be the 13th President of the country in league with that tradition," he said.
