Members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) today staged a protest before RBI regional office on Parliament Street here, registering their anger over yesterday's incident wherein a woman had disrobed in angst over her failure to exchange junked notes.
The women protesters, numbering around 35, raised slogans against RBI and demonetisation attracting a crowd of passersby.
RBI security personnel tried to control them but the AIDWA members continued their protest. Later police was called in and they were taken to Parliament Street police station.
"Yesterday's incident exposed how people, especially women were suffering due to demonetisation and lack of cash in banks and ATMs. We have conducted a survey which reveals that ATMs in many areas are lying without cash for a long time," said AIDWA general secretary Asha Sharma.
Unable to get a few junked currency notes exchanged, the woman who was carrying her son along, had removed her top clothes in front of the RBI regional office here yesterday.
She was later taken to Parliament Street police station where she kept mum during questioning by the policemen.
The woman was carrying a photocopy of an ID card but she didn't show it. She also did not tell anything about the old note or showed it, police said.
