A Delhi court today extended till May 30 the judicial custody of the dermatologist husband of a 31-year-old doctor of AIIMS who allegedly committed suicide due to mental torture caused by his sexual orientation.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sachin Sangwan remanded Dr Kamal Vedi, 34, in judicial custody after Delhi Police informed the court that investigation in the case was going on.
The court also asked Kamal, who was present in the court room with his father, if he has moved a bail application to which the accused replied in the negative.
Kamal was arrested by police on May 19 from his residence in AIIMS quarters in south Delhi after his wife, Priya, an anaesthetist at AIIMS, was found dead with her wrist slit at a hotel in Paharganj in central Delhi where she had checked-in after a fight with her husband.
According to police, the couple were married five years ago and soon after that, Priya came to know that her husband was a "gay".
However, in a purported suicide note she had claimed that she had "accepted it" and was ready to live with it but subsequent "torture" by her husband led her to take the extreme step.
