A 45-year-old staffer of AIIMS died of dengue today at the premier institute, according to the hospital authorities.
Balwan, a resident of Najafgarh who worked as an office attendant at the Director's office, was admitted to the hospital on September 3 with high fever and vomiting.
According to hospital authorities, the victim, who was shifted to the ICU on September 5, passed away this morning.
"It has been confirmed that the victim was suffering from dengue," a senior AIIMS official said.
The AIIMS authorities, however, could not confirm as to whether ELISA test has been conducted on the victim's samples.
If Balwan's death is taken as a confirmed case of dengue by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as well, the toll will rise to three. Two dengue deaths have been officially reported, both victims being from north Delhi.

As per municipal norms, only dengue cases which have been confirmed by ELISA test, are considered official.
On August 5, a 10-year-old Manipur native girl from south Delhi had died at the AIIMS after a week of high fever, becoming the first suspected death victim of the vector-borne disease, though the municipal corporations did not consider the case, as the ELISA test was not conducted on her.
Recently, son of an AIIMS technician had died after suffering high fever, and members of the workers's union at the premier campus, had allegedly that the cause was dengue.
According to official data, 1,259 cases of dengue have been reported in Delhi this year till September 5 with at least 428 cases in the first week of this month.
