The Students' Union of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the restitution of Sanjiv Chaturvedi as the Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS.
"Sanjiv Chaturvedi is an officer with impeccable integrity and honesty. He is quite well known for the corruption cases he has unearthed in his two year tenure at AIIMS doing exactly what he is meant to as the main anti-graft watch dog.
"The action of stripping the officer off the CVO charge at AIIMS will affect the cases he was fighting for. His removal has opened the doors for all those culprits to go scot free," the Students' Union of AIIMS said in the letter.
"We undergraduate students of AIIMS stand in solidarity with the honest officer and condemn his removal off the CVO post. We demand the cancellation of the order removing him so that he can continue his fight against corruption at AIIMS," the letter said.
Out of 454 students enrolled at AIIMS, 342 have signed the letter, the rest were either on leave or posted at Ballabgarh. Of those approached only 8 refused to sign the campaign, said a statement issued by them.
